Benji is a simple yet gripping story of a vagabond dog who happens upon some information that certain humans need to know, and the complications he encounters in struggling to communicate what he's seen.
The movie has been digitally re-mastered with new stereo sound by BenjiMovies.com, supervised by the film's director, and is available in VHS and DVD formats. All retail copies are reproduced directly from digital masters, not from analog copies.
Customer Review: A blast from my past
Truly a nostalgic trip back to my childhood - the film is just as engaging as I remember (although a little more violent than I recalled, with the kids getting kidnapped and Benji's poor girlfriend pooch getting literally kicked to the side at one point) All in all a very cute and engaging tale of a lone dog and his world. My toddler LOVES Benji (and almost all dog movies)
Customer Review: Stay of the couch you stoopid dog!
Benjy just won't listen. This dog refuses to be housebroken and after several attempts by inpatient owners, Benjy is finally taken to the pound. Benjy escapes and joins the circus, along with long time rival, Curious George. At least Lassie was smart.
Here, Doug has a ball playing dual roles, as hopeless fop Don Diego and as masked caballero Zorro, sworn enemy of all oppressors. When he isn't dueling with the evil Capt. Ramon (Robert McKim) or rescuing peasants, Don Diego/Zorro courts the lovely Lolita (Marguerite de la Motte) with bad magic tricks and worse manners. In the end, when Lolita's family is jailed, our hero throws off his masquerade, whips out his rapier, and wins the leading lady's hand.
Full of fun plot twists, secret passageways, and Fairbanks's signature arms-akimbo bravado, this silent classic (with restored sepia interiors) became the model for all the Errol Flynn-Tyrone Power swashbucklers to come. --Glenn Lovell
Customer Review: Doug's Breakthrough Film
Though lacking the high production values of its 1940 counterpart, the original "Mark of Zorro" is great fun. This adaptation of Johnston McCulley's "Curse of Capistrano" propelled Douglas Fairbanks from light comedian to adventure star. Inventive action sequences and a vigorous pace make this Doug's most enjoyable feature-length vehicle. For comic-book artist Bob Kane, the film was a major influence in the creation of Batman.
Customer Review: Classic Version Of Zorro With America's Leading Man. The Standard For Future Versions Of Zorro.
Johnston McCulley's first Zorro story "The Curse Of Capistrano" appeared in 1919. Douglas Fairbanks, known to audience for romantic comedies, adapted the story for the screen himself under an assumed name. The result set the standard for future adaptations of the masked bandit. This is a MUST for film buffs. Not Rated.
Then, disaster strikes!
In a déjà vu nightmare for The Disney Company, a ruthless corporate raider launches a takeover attempt, planning to sell off the company’s assets to the highest bidders. And this time there are no white knights in Disney’s corner.
But the Circle is still there, the small group of confidants who helped Walt escape death and who have been guarding him and his secret ever since. Even though they’re all old men now, they’re not about to let Walt’s company be torn apart without a fight. And they know just who can lead them. However, as they scurry to wake him, the Circle discovers there are powerful forces that want the dead to stay dead. But they don’t know Walt Disney!
Customer Review: Waking Walt will keep you awake at night
I had the pleasure of reading Waking Walt recently. I was not familiar with the Disney legend that Walt was cryogenically frozen. I am also not a Disney theme park fan. Yet, Larry Pontius's book kept me riveted to the pages and caused a few very sleepy days at work. It is a well-paced detective style thriller. Characters are well-developed. Walt was represented as a crusty, impatient man who people loved because of his genius and in spite of his flaws. This book would make a great summer read. It is a true page-turner.
Customer Review: reality and creativity
We all have heard stories of Walt Disney being cryopreserved, but wait for this story. It takes that premise and grows into a fast paced mystery/adventure. You get the feeling that Larry knows Walt and knows the inside scoop. It definitely is an enjoyable read.
C.S. Lewis's The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe has been a fantasy classic for more than fifty years and is now a major motion picture!
Susan Pevensie wishes everything could be sensible and normal, but it's not. The world is at war, and she and her brothers and sister are far from home. When Susan finds herself in the enchanted land of Narnia and in great danger, it is almost too much to bear! But hope lies with the mysterious Great Lion, Aslan, and Susan learns to accept the new, breathtaking magic that surrounds her.
Maggie's first and only customer is the owner's son, Joe Merrill, (fresh-faced and sunny Charles "Buddy" Rogers). Maggie has no clue of the young man's pedigree, as he is slumming as "Joe Grant." His father has insisted that he work his way up as a humble store clerk without benefit of his famous name. The chemistry between Joe and Maggie is instantly apparent. Maggie takes him down to the stockroom, where he's helpless with the simplest tasks. "You know, you're awfully dumb," she tells him. But thanks to her patient training, he's eventually promoted to the position of her boss. (It's an appealing role reversal of the principals in the "Pygmalion"/"My Fair Lady" tale.) In the meantime, of course, they fall in love.
The moment when Maggie realizes Joe's true identity is stunning. She runs back to her humble family on "Goat Hill": fumbling father, (Lucien Littlefield), lachrymose mother (Sunshine Hart), and reprobate sister (Carmelita Geraghty). Is Maggie and Joe's love affair doomed? Or will they sail away to paradise together? Only those who see My Best Girl can learn the answers to these burning questions. --Laura Mirsky
Customer Review: Beautiful, Romantic, Funny
Did you know Mary Pickford met her 3rd husband, Charles "Buddy" Rogers during casting for this film? Anyway, that's what gives this movie an extra intrigue for me. I mean, here she was married to the dashing Douglas Fairbanks at the time when she's canoodling with Buddy Rogers in the movie... And Buddy's sooo handsome and charming! (Have you seen him in 'Old Man Rhythm' 1933) Mary's performance is wonderful too, she's got the character down (her mannerisms and facial expressions are right on). So, endearing, this movie is one of my fave silents.
Customer Review: When You Gotta Pick a Pickford Flick...
This is the Pickford Flick to Pick! You simply can't go wrong with MY BEST GIRL. The plot is one you've seen a million times, but it just doesn't matter. This film is so engrossing and transporting that you'll swear it's all brand new. The performances, direction, settings, music, humor, you name it -- all are pitch perfect. If you've never seen a silent film, this is the one to see. If you know someone who thinks silents aren't worth seeing, show them this one. If you'd like to see a silent film that really holds up in the 21st century, search no further. If you're feeling down or depressed, see this film. If you need a date movie in a pinch, grab this one. If you'd just like to sit back, relax and watch a DVD that's fun, entertaining and top-notch in virtually every way... well, you know the answer. If there is a flaw -- and this is nitpicking -- it would be an extended sequence toward the end that veers dangerously close to going over the top. Otherwise, it's sweet, charming, romantic and old-fashioned in the best possible sense, but never cloying or saccharine. It's simple, straightforward, predictable... and perfect. MY BEST GIRL is one of the very few films, silent or otherwise, that I can't imagine anyone disliking. And it has tremendous rewatchability -- an important factor when considering a purchase. A word about the new musical score: David Michael Frank NAILS this movie. This is, hands down, one of the best silent film scores I've heard. It adds major impact to an already strong film, and don't be surprised if the breezy themes bounce around your head for weeks after viewing. Am I gushing? You better believe it! After writing all of this, I just can't help myself... I gotta go watch MY BEST GIRL!
Here Comes Peter Cottontail features catchy songs, great 1970s stop-motion animation, and a fun Easter tale. Parents will find themselves reminiscing over holidays gone by or wondering how they missed this show in their own childhood. The 2 and up crowd will be begging for another showing long after the Easter candy is a distant memory. --Tami Horiuchi
Customer Review: great classic
I would highly recommend this to all of us who remember watching this during Easter time. It's one of those rare classics that came on TV around Easter time and was difficult to catch, especially without the advantages we have today, DVR. Thank you Rankin and Bass for providing great holiday memories and thank you Vincent Price for providing great voice characters.
Customer Review: Here Comes Peter Cottontail
This is a classic holiday film that possesses the same quality as the original Rudolph. Vincent Price is a great villain as usual.
