LAUREL AND HARDY: In the film industry, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were Hollywood's original comedy team. It was apparent from the start that together, Laurel and Hardy had a unique chemistry a perfect mix of slapstick comedy and precise punch line delivery that put them in an entirely different class. Much of their partnership's success is due to their characters' night and day personalities in contrast with their steadfast friendship. For three decades, the hilarious twosome made more than one hundred films--twenty-seven of which were features--and more than fifty comedy shorts. From their silent movies to their feature films, the uproarious antics and bumbling behaviors of this beloved team live on, continuing to delight audiences with their treasured films, forever remaining the first, the original, Kings of Comedy.
OUR GANG: The creator of Our Gang, Hal Roach, felt that rather than watch kids act like little adults, it would be much more fun to watch them behave as they really do--like kids! And he was right. Audiences adored watching the childish mischief and hilarious antics of the gang, which included Spanky, Alfalfa, Stymie, Buckwheat, Porky, Butch, Wheezer, Chubby, Waldo, and more. THE JACK BENNY SHOW: Jack Benny began his career in show biz on the airwaves, and by 1950 he was ready to enter the realm of television. With his move from radio to the small screen, Benny brought along with him many supporting actors from his original show. They included: Eddie Anderson as Rochester Van Jones, the star's deep-voiced valet; robust narrator Don Wilson; songster Dennis Day; Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny), who played Benny's violin teacher; Mary Livingstone, as Benny's wife; and Frank Nelson as the character best-known for saying, "Yeeeesssss!" Apart from the familiar characters that joined Jack Benny's television show from his precursor radio program, Benny managed to land many top stars as guests. The Jack Benny Show enjoyed a long enduring run of fifteen years, served as a springboard for several up-and-coming celebrities, and made Jack Benny one of the most loved comedians in the history of American television.
GROUCHO MARX:Groucho Marx is one of many stars to make a radio broadcast their debut, only to move to TV once the radio show reached popularity. But Marx didn't go the usual route with a sitcom or talk show; rather, he made a name for himself hosting a game show called, You Bet Your Life. The show, broadcast on radio, originally aired in 1947, becoming a televised radio show in 1950. But Marx was funny and he became famous for his improvisational grilling of contestants. In fact, some of his onstage antics are the most hilarious in the history of television! He had a quick wit and an uncanny knack of delivering the punch line. His show lasted until 1961 and by that time, the name had been changed to The Groucho Show in an effort to distance it from the game show scandals of the time.
