Studio Snapshots
Customer Review: Examples of PARAMOUNT's 'Hollywood on Parade' newsreels
KINO's STUDIO SNAPSHOTS features an hour's worth of the "Hollywood on Parade" simulated newsreels that PARAMOUNT issued between 1928 and '41. These brief films were used to promote the studio's actors and/or product. Among the 50-plus performers appearing here are Maurice Chevalier, Mary Pickford, Gary Cooper, Bela Lugosi (as Dracula), Cary Grant, cowboy star Ken Maynard, Ginger Rogers (in drag!), Buster Keaton, Tallulah Bankhead (singing) and Cary Grant. Also included are two 1933 musical comedy shorts headlined by Bing Crosby and Milton Berle. "Studio Snapshots" is not available on DVD. Recommended to supplement this tape is KINO's VHS version of CAVALCADE OF COMEDY. It contains six 1930s shorts by Burns & Allen, Eddie Cantor, George Jessel, Smith & Dale and others. Their DVD, THE PARAMOUNT COMEDY SHORTS offers an additional 10 titles (16 in all)-- over three hours of rare vintage comedy. Parenthetical numbers preceding titles are 1 to 10 viewer poll ratings found at a film resource website. Hollywood on Parade (sampler) (5.2) Poppin' the Cork (1933) - Milton Berle/Norma Taylor/Mary Cole/Gertrude Mudge/Charles Anthony Hughes (6.6) Sing, Bing Sing (1933) - Bing Crosby/Florine McKinney/Irving Bacon/Franklin Pangborn/Arthur Stone
