Customer Review: Informative
This tape contains an informative look at two of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's famous ballets: "The Nutcracker" and "The Sleeping Beauty." Each segment is approximately thirty minutes long. Frank Augustyn is the host, and there are interviews with many famous dancers and dance critics. The discussions are open and honest in nature, and the interviewees are quite objective. Topics include a general overview of the story, the strengths and weaknesses of the libretto, how dancers feel about the ballet and the characters, the technical challenges involved with dancing the parts, the quality of the music, and commentary by dance critics. Some dance excerpts are included as well, but these are not full performances. In other words, if you are looking to purchase a full length version of either of these ballet titles, then you need to continue your search elsewhere. This tape is aimed at people who are familiar with the works and wish to get to know them a better. Overall, the tape is interesting and professionally done.
