DVD-Levon Helm Teaches Classic Rock,Country & Blues Drumming
Take a lesson from a true rock legend! Levon Helm's music reflects a cross-section of American styles: Delta blues, country, the Memphis sound, rockabilly and, of course, the music of The Band.

On this unique DVD, Levon invites you into his home studio in Woodstock, NY to share his unique ideas on drumming and to hear this born storyteller's fascinating insights into the music and lore that helped shape rock `n' roll history. Beginners and professionals alike will benefit from Levon's approach to the drums. He covers basic concepts - shuffles, eighth-note grooves, rim shots, drum intros and fills for learning players, while more experienced drummers will be interested in the different "feels" that shape his distinctive sound. Levon's ideas about tempo, click tracks, playing half-time, drumming while singing, arranging double drums, and other techniques will add powerful new elements to your drumming style.

Levon works his way through several country blues and Band tunes, including The Weight, King Harvest, Blues Stay Away From Me, Rock and Roll Shoes, Short Fat Fanny, Up on Cripple Creek, Life is a Carnival and Hand Jive, with rare performances by The Band specifically staged for this DVD.
Customer Review: Great DVD for learning...or just watching...
This DVD is very entertaining. Whether you are looking for tips on playing the drums, or just love watching and listening to great muscians having a good time. Levon is a born storyteller, and talks of his early days in Helena, AR, (my home town), and his time with Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks and with The Band. Rick Danko and Garth Hudson from The Band accompany Levon for some great rock/blues playing. I've watched the entire DVD twice and listened to the songs many times, and I've only had it a few days. As I said, it's great whether on not you have any intent to learn playing the drums.
